Barnegat — The Barnegat branch of the Ocean County Library will feature the creations of local artist Martin Mayo in an exhibit opening Monday, Sept. 1, and running through the end of October.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Mayo said he will be displaying between 15 and 20 works featuring acrylics and house paint. His work has been published in many magazines as well as The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. He taught art in Jersey City High School from 2005 to 2009.

He is also a caricature artist, and has set up shop at Candiqueen’s in Barnegat.

“Caricatures are not going to be part of this show,” he said. “These are not magazine illustrations, either. They’re works that I have done on my own time.

“I learned a lot from my father, who was a graphic artist,” said Mayo, who is a member of the Pine Shores Art Association in Manahawkin.

When not focusing on art work, Mayo can be seen in the area fronting his rock band, Marty and the Martians.
