Little Egg Harbor Township — The Little Egg Harbor Board of Education approved pay raises or extra hours for some of its workers at its Aug. 12 meeting.

“As we have discussed earlier, we are increasing the salaries for our nurse assistants effective Sept. 1,” Superintendent of Schools Melissa McCooley told the board. “We are also increasing the cafeteria/playground aide hours from three to 3½ hours a day, which will give us more assistance in both of those areas. We are increasing our substitute teacher per diem rate from $85 to $95. So if anyone is listening or if anyone knows anyone who wants to be a substitute teacher, please reach out to Jackie Truzzolino (who can be reached at or by phone at 609-296-1719, extension 2100 or 1015) or stop in the board office and we’d love to have you be a substitute teacher in our district.”

The pay raise for the district’s nurse assistants, who are registered nurses, is substantial. One current nurse assistant will see her salary jump from $36,897 to $50,000 for the 2019-20 while another will get a raise from $41,842 to $50,000. The board also approved the hiring of a new nurse assistant, who will be paid $50,000, and a new school nurse, who will have a beginning salary of $59,739.

The board also approved a suggestion by McCooley to move up the start of the public sessions of its monthly meetings from 6 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. —R.M.
