Beach Haven, NJ — A new way to drive around the streets of Beach Haven is offered by LBI Carts, a golf cart rental service that opened for business at a kiosk in Bay Village last month.

Owner Heather Beattie said the six-person street legal golf cart is the ideal low-speed vehicle for driving a group to the beach, taking friends to a restaurant, or loading up the family – and the dog – and heading to see the sunset.

“You can drive it on any street except Bay Avenue, the main street,” said Beattie. “But you’re allowed to cross Bay Avenue. And you have to obey all the rules of the road as if you were driving a car.”

The light-blue vehicles are equipped with headlights, taillights, turn signals and seat belts, in addition to other safety features. A canopy top covers the vehicle.

“It’s also a great vehicle for sightseeing,” she said. “It’s easier to see some things from a cart than it is from the car.”

Beattie said the carts do not require fuel, and can be recharged with any standard household outlet.

“It has a 25-foot cord that can be plugged in,” she said. “A single, full charge is good for 40 miles.”

Beattie said the business has three carts available, with a minimum rental of 12 hours (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.) for $125 per day. The maximum rental is for seven days at $750.

“We plan to be here in the fall,” she said. “We’re already getting requests for weddings. That can be a fun way for the wedding party to travel.”
