Tuckerton — The Kauriga Concert with tenor Justine Gonzalez and the South River Balalaika Orchestra returns to the Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal for a spring musical on Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. Both the Kauriga Family and the Balalaika orchestras are in the Smithsonian Folkways Recording Artists Series. The Kauriga Orchestra received a Grammy for the Russian and Ukrainian Artists series, and its recordings have been used during the International Olympics and in Universal Studios films.

This year the Kauriga Orchestra will continue performances from the American Songbook featuring mezzo-soprano Lenore Kauriga and opera tenor Justin Gonzalez.

Lenore Kauriga and her husband, Dimitri, have performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as the Lyric and Grand Opera companies of Philadelphia, to name just two venues.

Gonzalez has performed with the Philly Pops, the Pennsylvania Ballet, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the International Opera Theater pf Philadelphia among other venues. He performs in many genres: oratorio, concert, musical theater, big band and jazz combo.

The South River Balalaika Orchestra plays Eastern European folk music using authentic instruments such as the balalaika, domras, woodwinds and a variety of percussive instruments. It has been featured on PBS stations and was a guest artist at the International Icon Art Exhibit at Villanova University.

The afternoon ends with a sumptuous buffet with an opportunity to meet the musicians.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $10 for children and students. The performance is held in the Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal, 220 East Main St. in Tuckerton. Tickets can be obtained by calling the church office at 609-296-9618 weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon. —P.J.
