Ideal Resolution

May 08, 2019

To the Editor:

Before another town in Ocean County passes a resolution to not be a sanctuary city, I ask that people read the resolution passed by Pitman, N.J., in February 2017:

“Whereas, we acknowledge the values and ideals this great nation was founded upon along with all that is decent and exceptional about the United States of America, and

“Whereas, the contribution of its citizens from through out the world to American culture may not be ignored nor can the continued contribution of our diversity as being vital to the advancement of the nation be overstated; and

“Whereas, it is the intent of Mayor and council to reject bigotry and prejudice against any race or religion and to affirm that the Borough of Pitman values peaceful people of all faiths practicing their beliefs under the protect of the Constitution of the United States of America.

“Now therefore, be it resolved that the Mayor and council of the Borough of Pitman does hereby affirm our belief that we are one Nation. That people suffering from war, poverty and persecution have a fair opportunity to access the rights and freedoms afforded to them by our Republic. We affirm and stand by the principles our Nation was founded upon; Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

I wish more Ocean County residents thought like this.
