Home Instead Says, ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’

By Eric Englund | Nov 27, 2019

Southern Ocean County — Home Instead Care in Waretown is looking for people to “Be a Santa to a Senior” and make the holidays brighter for an elderly person experiencing difficult times. Tara Bonelli, Home Instead community relations director, said trees would be set up with tags listing specific items seniors are requesting. Volunteers will write the first name or code name of the participating senior and their gift preferences on a “Be a Santa to a Senior” tree bulb.

Trees are currently located at two Manahawkin sites, Simply Hair & Nails, 227 Route 9 North, and Manasquan Bank, 525 Route 72 East. There are also trees at Naples Restaurant, 550 North Main St. (Route 9) in Barnegat Township and the Manasquan Bank at 540 Route 9, Little Egg Harbor Township.

Bonnelli said customers at the businesses could pull a bulb from the tree and purchase gifts for the senior from the gift ideas listed on the bulb. The gifts and corresponding tags will be grouped together and placed under the Christmas tree by program volunteers. In addition, volunteers will regularly collect gifts and refresh tree bulbs as needed and then deliver the gifts to each participating senior.

The deadline to donate gifts is Monday, Dec. 16. For more information, call Home Instead at 609-607-1900. —E.E.
