Angling enthusasts are invited to participate in the High Point Volunteer Fire Co. striper shootout fishing tournament on Saturday, June 8 from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The entry fee is $150 per boat with up to two anglers, and $50 for each additional angler. A lunker special costs $350 per boat with up to six anglers, with the name of the boat or business appearing on the back of the event T-shirt.

Reservations are accepted up until the mandatory captains meeting on Friday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the firehouse on West 80th Street in Harvey Cedars. Each boat must have a representative to go over all the rules and regulations.

The fishing boundaries are from the Seaside Heights Casino Pier to the Wreck Inlet, just south of the Little Egg Inlet. Boats will be launched at the 78th Street dock.

No one takes their catch home to cook since the firehouse will be the scene of a fish fry beginning at 2. Each angler receives free admission to the fish fry, but those who want to come just to eat pay $30 (children 12 and younger are admitted for $10). There will also be live music, a silent auction, special drawings, 50/50 prizes, a tequila bar and a beer truck. An awards ceremony begins at 6 p.m.

The event is the second largest fundraiser for the company, which also serves portions of the Loveladies and North Beach sections of Long Beach Township. The major fundraiser is the Dog Day Race, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 18.

“This year we are continuing our fundraising efforts towards funding our new air packs and replacing out firefighters aging turnout gear,” the fire company said on its website. “The air packs and turnout gear are very costly but the safety of our members is paramount and an immediate priority.”

Sponsorships ranging from $100 to $500 are available. Donations for items to be auctioned are also sought. For more information, call 609-494-9169 or visit hpvfc.com—E.E.
