Southern Ocean County — After a 38-minute-long list of holiday special events was given by members who each stood up at a recent Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce meeting, someone asked, “Are these all written down somewhere?”

Yes! In fact, they are featured on a new online digital map by the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.

Planned Santa sightings, theater shows, in-store sales, New Year’s Eve revelry, dozens of events hosted by participating chamber members are pointed out for the public in the online guide.

The new Holidays Redefined Digital Map can be found on the chamber of commerce website, visitLBIregion.com/shoplocal/.

For shoppers, the map points the way to holiday deals and events, and for businesses, the map is a way to get their information out there to shoppers.

“What better way to get it all in one place? You can see the location where we are hosting these events, and carry it with you wherever you go,” Samantha Cisternas, membership and marketing coordinator with the chamber, told chamber members at the November meeting.

Chamber members have a deadline of Friday, Nov. 22 to sign up, according to the website. A registration form is online. After registering, chamber members contact the registrant and get the next steps going. The posts can be updated through the season as well.

Viewers of the map will also see a link to an Instagram photo contest. The focus is on getting shoppers and event-goers involved by encouraging them to take pictures of decorations or other good sights when they visit the shops and venues.

The Holidays Redefined kickoff officially starts on Shop Small Saturday, Nov. 30, and runs through New Year’s Eve. But the map is now up and running

“The map can point out exciting things going on, new deals, packages; it’s going to display photos that you select of your business, links to your social media,” Cisternas told chamber members. “It’s a very easy form for you to fill out and get registered. We also make it very easy for you to share it on your website.”

The chamber will get the word out on the map’s existence by advertising it in print, radio and social media.

Added Kate Krier, business outreach coordinator for the Southern Ocean Chamber, “Everybody who has registered already loves it.” —M.S.
