A Comedy Night, which will benefit New Gretna’s Veterans United Military Memorial Museum, is set for Friday, April 5 at Cuisine on the Green at the Ocean County Country Club at Atlantis, in Little Egg Harbor.

The doors will open for the event with a limited buffet at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance – call Jim at 609-513-6454 – and $40 at the door

No less than four comics will perform that evening. Comedian and comedy show producer John Harris will serve as the emcee, introducing Zane Birnie, Tom Mongelli and headliner Mike KC.

Birnie, Mongelli and Mike KC have different comedic styles in terms of pace and subject matter, but they share a trait that is invaluable in the stand-up business. They can laugh at themselves. For example:

“I almost didn’t make it here today,” said the portly Mongelli in a 2018 show. “I was in court all week. It was the food court at the mall. I’m sitting there minding my own business, this fat chick waddles my way with a shirt that says ‘guess.’ I said, ‘350?’ She ate my Cinnabon. So now we’re dating. At night we don’t spoon, we ladle.”

Stand-up was not Mike KC’s first venture into the entertainment industry. He was an extra in the 2004 Touchstone Pictures film “Ladder 49” and in Disney’s 2006 movie “Invincible,” earning about two seconds of camera time in both flicks. Again, he can make fun of himself, saying, “I’m cashing in my 15 minutes of fame very slowly.”  —R.M.
