Long Beach Island residents are invited to attend a community outreach session on Saturday, May 4, for assistance with flood insurance. The event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ship Bottom borough hall, is sponsored by Smart Vent, a New Jersey-based manufacturer of foundation flood vents.

“Whether you are confused about coverage options or FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) regulations/requirements, in just one free session, our professionals can offer you the guidance you need with on-the-spot mitigation reporting and flood insurance premium information,” a flyer for the program explains. Learn about “improvements that may reduce your flood insurance premium.”

Following a presentation from 11 to 11:30 a.m. – covering changes to the National Flood Insurance Program and new laws and regulations that will potentially affect policies, as well as mitigation steps to help save money  attendees can sit one-on-one with a certified floodplain manager to review current elevation certificate and flood insurance policy. Stop in any time after 11:30 a.m. to speak with a representative about lowering flood insurance costs.

Reserve a spot at the session by visiting LBIoutreach.eventbrite.com.

If available, homeowners should bring their elevation certificate and current flood insurance policy. Call 866-599-7065 for assistance obtaining an elevation certificate.

Attendees can also email their elevation certificate and flood insurance declaration page to fastpass@yourfloodrisk.com ahead of the event to have a complimentary flood risk evaluation report waiting for them there.  —J.K.-H.
