Family Health and Safety Fair Offers Free Screenings and More

Mar 27, 2019

The free Family Health and Safety Fair on Thursday, April 25  at St. Francis Community Center in Brant Beach will also host the county document shredding program.

The fair, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will fill the center’s gym. Health screenings, education, resources, giveaways and refreshments will be available.

Medical professionals will be available for free screenings of vision, blood pressure, osteoporosis, cholesterol, blood sugar, hearing, skin and more.

A visual education tool that gets attention every year while it teaches is the 12-foot reproduction of a colon in the presentation “How Healthy Is Your Colon?”

Sponsors of the day are the center, Long Beach Island Health Department and Southern Ocean Medical Center.

The Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management will be back again this year with its residential document shredding. This program is open to residents only. Business and/or commercial documents will not be accepted.

Residents are limited to six boxes or bags of documents. Paper clips and staples do not have to be removed from documents. Unacceptable items include X-rays, CDs, floppy disks, micro film and file folders.

The Long Beach Township Police Department will have a Project Medicine drop box on site to dispose of medications.

Information will also be available on the following: senior services, health care, alternative medicine, financial matters, fitness, family services, community service, Ocean County services, counseling, health and safety tips. Veterans representatives for Ocean County will attend.

Admission is free, and attendees can find free continental breakfast.
