Eagleswood Introduces 2019 Budget With No Tax Increase

Apr 03, 2019

Eagleswood Township Chief Financial Officer Albert Stanley has introduced the 2019 municipal budget, totaling $1.77 million, with no increase in the tax or sewer rates.

“Music to our ears,” Mayor Michael Pasternak said.

Eagleswood’s tax rate remains stable at .418, or approximately 42 cents, per $100 of assessed property value. The averaged assessed residential value for 2019 is $250,073, so the average taxpayer pays $1,050 per year in municipal taxes.

The only slight increase in the budget was in the sanitation contract, Stanley said, but everything else has been maintained the same. Even the surplus is up.

The total budget is down from 2018’s $1.95 million.

“We work very hard to make sure we take care of business that we have to, and we have everybody’s checkbooks in our minds when we sit here and make these decisions,” Pasternak said.

The public hearing on the budget will be held April 22 at 7 p.m. in the municipal meeting room.

During committee reports at the end of the March 25 meeting, Committeewoman Debra Rivas announced the annual MCI (Motorcycle Competition Inc.) Stump Jumper Hare Scramble at the Sahara Sand pit is scheduled for the weekend of May 18 and 19. Deputy Mayor Nick Sommaripa will have his Louie G’s wood-fired pizza truck on site, and according to event organizer Dave Nash, this year’s races will include a ladies’ fun race for the riders’ partners and moms to ride the dirt bikes.

An Eagleswood Township real estate tax sale in March had 27 properties up for auction, 11 of which went to high bidders; the rest the town will hold, Rivas said.

On behalf of the Eagleswood Volunteer Fire Co., Pasternak announced an extrication drill planned for April 13, which will be conducted at the public works garage. He further noted Great Bay Regional Volunteer EMS Squad 85 marks its 20th anniversary this year.

From the Code Enforcement Office, Eagleswood’s Zoning Officer Mark Ellis had 22 contacts this month, Pasternak reported: four permits issued, zero complaints received, one summons written, 18 violation letters sent.  —V.F.
