Difficult Scenario

Oct 23, 2019

Dear St. Francis Community:

Two weeks ago, we were faced with a difficult and unique scenario. Due to the flooding issues on Long Beach Island and predicted flooding concerns over the weekend, we were unable to host our LBI Commemorative 18 Mile Run. After speaking with the local police chiefs, office of emergency management and officials, it was determined the race could not be set up and carried out due to the flooding and safety concerns regarding runners, volunteers, emergency personnel and motorists alike.

There are many setup expenses associated with the run. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds or deferments toward next year’s race. This decision was made to ensure the economic viability of the event. Any proceeds from the race will be applied to the Recreation Department, which is one program within the St. Francis Community Center. The center is a nonprofit social service agency that provides year-round educational, social, recreational and self-development activities and programs for all ages.

T-shirts can be picked up at the St. Francis Community Center by runners and volunteers. If you do not live in the area and would like your T-shirt mailed to you, send your name and address to slamarco@stfrancislbi.org.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
