Detective MaryAnn Cirulli made Barnegat Police Department history as she became the first female officer to attain the rank of sergeant. Cirulli, who joined the agency in April 2003, received her badge at the March 5 township committee meeting. The niece of Mayor Alfonso Cirulli served in the uniformed operations division and later as a member of the narcotics unit, as well as in the investigative division, where Police Chief Keith Germain said she “established herself as a skilled detective and arson investigator.”

In her new post, she will serve as supervisor of the agency’s crime reduction unti.

Also promoted to sergeant was Patrolman Nicholas Venuto. He joined the department in February 2007 and has served as a member of the uniformed operations division, SWAT team and crime reduction unit.

“He has served multiple tours with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force,” said Germain. Venuto will serve in the operations division in charge of a patrol squad.

Germain also announced the hiring of three new patrolmen: Patrick Moran, Keith Falkowski and Brandon Bloodgood.

Moran is the second Barnegat High School graduate to join the agency and was a standout football player before moving on to William Paterson University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. Falkowski is a graduate of Southern Regional High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in visual communication and graphic design from Stockton University. His father, Jerry Falkowski, is a retired Harvey Cedars police chief.

Both will begin training this month at the Ocean County Police Academy in Lakewood.

Bloodgood is a graduate of Toms River High School East and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University. He is a graduate of the Atlantic County Police Academy and will immediately begin the Barnegat department’s 10-week field training program. E.E.
