Coast Guard Searching for Missing Foam Buoy Off Beach Haven

Beach Haven — The Coast Guard is looking for a foam buoy that’s gone missing from the Intracoastal Waterway off Beach Haven after being notified that one of the temporary fixes they put into place following two boating accidents late last month wasn’t where it should be.

Senior Chief Boatswain’s Mate Elijah Reynolds, who is the officer in charge of the Aids to Navigation team based in Cape May, said his team received the report Friday, June 21, and responded later that afternoon to review the situation.

The foam buoy, which marked the area of channel marker 94 until the East Coast dive team arrives next month to deploy a more long-term solution for 10 broken aids to navigation in local waters, was held in place on a pole with lock washers and nuts tightened on each side to prevent the buoy from floating away.

Reynolds said his team completed the replacement of the temporary fix on Saturday, June 22, when conditions were conducive to the work.

If any mariners see the buoy, they should contact Reynolds at 609-898-6427.  —G.G.S.
