Barnegat Light — An unidentified woman was airlifted by the U.S. Coast Guard Sunday afternoon after a recreational boat she was a passenger on and which ran aground in Barnegat Bay was struck in the side by another boat. She was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

A Sea Tow employee notified the Coast Guard of the accident at 2:58 p.m. Aug. 18, according to a press release from U.S. Coast Guard 5th District Mid-Atlantic. Station Barnegat Light launched a 29-foot response boat, a high-speed, easily deployable boat designed to operate year ’round in shallow waters along coastal borders, to medevac the injured boater.

Once on scene, the boat crew transferred the injured boater to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Station Barnegat Light. —G.G.S.
