Brighton at Barnegat Homeowners Announce New Officers

Feb 27, 2019

The Manufactured Home Owners Association of Brighton at Barnegat in Barnegat Township recently announced new leadership. Robert Kirsch will serve as president, while Ron Naples was named vice president. Betsy DeGange was named treasurer, and Anita Szarzynski will serve as secretary.

Kirsch, who replaced Michelle Woodruff, said his first priority is to make sure the township committee adopts an ordinance allowing for rental developments and landlords to negotiate rent increases rather than go before the rent leveling board.

Late last year, Lori Greenberg, an attorney representing Hometown America, owners of Brighton at Barnegat, had requested that she and tenants be permitted to work out a rental agreement. Without that provision, she told the township committee to gird itself for lengthy legal battles in court if the rent leveling board would deny increases.

According to the ordinance, when the landlord and tenants effectuate a rent increase by agreement, the agreement shall be in writing, signed by the landlord and signed by the tenants representing 75 percent of the occupied units affected by the increase.

A public hearing is planned for the next committee meeting on Tuesday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Kirsch said that in April, Brighton will be holding a community wildfire preparedness cleanup day. Work on the properties will include raking and bagging leaves and pine needles, trimming trees and shrubbery away from homes, removing dead branches from yards, trimming lower tree branches and relocating flammable materials away from homes.

“The completion of this work will give residents a better chance of having their homes withstand a wildfire,” he said. —E.E.
