Two close friends who were born and raised in Manahawkin and are yoga enthusiasts and teachers will be opening Bendy Jane Yoga beginning Friday, March 1, at their studio at 85 North Main St. (Route 9), located on the second floor. The partners, Justine Henderson and Bridget Barlet, said the studio will offer workshop-like classes, rather than just gentle, vinyasa, or restorative sessions.

Bendy Jane Yoga was founded in April 2017 as a pop-up yoga company.

“Then known as Yoga by Bridget and Justine, we began bringing yoga classes to the brewery we were both working at,” said Henderson. “Within a year, we expanded to new breweries, beach yoga, yoga hikes and yoga events for the Lakewood BlueClaws and Kean University. We created our name, Bendy Jane Yoga, to share our mission of proving yoga is for every Jane and John Doe (aka everyone). We rebranded on Jan. 1, 2018. Somewhere along the way, we got this amazing community surrounding us with support and love from all angles.”

Henderson said their business motto is “Community Over Competition” as it regularly partners with other small businesses and entrepreneurs.

“We knew when we were presented with the opportunity to open a yoga studio in Manahawkin that there might be some concerns with an over-saturation of studios in the area,” said Henderson. “Luckily, we already have established relationships with all the studios in the area. We truly believe the yoga community should lift each other up and celebrate each other, rather than competing. This is also why we will have owners and teachers from these studios come lead workshops at our new studio.”

Some of the classes offered include “Melt Your Monday Blues Away,” “Chill Your Chakras,” “Flow and Go” and “Hip Hop Flow,” among others.
