Explore the local environment through the interpretive centers at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, in Loveladies. LBIF’s Discovery Days – on Wednesdays and Fridays – begin next week. Attendance is free, and no registration is required.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesdays starting June 19, venture through the 21-acre protected salt marsh preserve along the bay behind the Foundation. Learn about shellfish, turtles, ospreys, native plants and more with members of the LBIF Science Committee.

And on Fridays starting June 21, also at 10 a.m., the focus is all the things a-flutter on the Foundation grounds: the birds, the bees and the butterflies, as well as the plants that support them, and their importance to our ecosystem.

Discovery Wednesdays and Fridays run through Aug. 21 and Aug. 23, respectively.

“Bring a group to learn about the ecosystems of Long Beach Island!” the Foundation encourages. Both programs are held outside, rain or shine, and include a nature walk.

The LBIF is located at 120 Long Beach Blvd. in Loveladies.
