July 23-27 will mark the 50th year of the Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational, the oldest white marlin fishing tournament in the country. To commemorate this milestone, event organizers are donating 50 percent of the tournament’s net proceeds to a local charity, Parker’s Army, in loving memory of Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club junior angler Parker Nork. On March 11, 2017, 9-year-old Parker lost his battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, just 22 days after his diagnosis.

With the event fast approaching, tourney directors Dave Ridley and Bill Linney are reaching out to past sponsors, and seeking new ones as well. “Few tournaments can boast of such a storied history of excellent offshore fishing combined with first-class hospitality and camaraderie as the annual White Marlin Invitational,” the directors note. “Today this tradition continues, but not without your support. This is your opportunity to become one of the household names synonymous not only with this historic event, but with New Jersey offshore fishing as a whole.”

Names of event sponsors will be visible to all tournament participants and hundreds of visitors – in person, online and in print – “and not only during the event, but from the day you commit as a sponsor,” said Ridley and Linney. “We encourage you to commit early to maximize your business’ exposure. Waiting … may ensure you still beat the July 1 print deadline for our tournament book,” but promotion also happens at boat shows, on the event website, on posters at bait and tackle shops and marinas, and on social media.

“With an estimated 50 or more offshore fishing boats and hundreds of visitors and attendees over five days at the Beach Haven Marlin & Tuna Club, sponsorship reaches potential customers for a very small amount of money per person,” they added.

This year’s tournament begins with registration and an 8 p.m. captain’s meeting on Tuesday, July 23, at the BHMTC. Fishing starts Wednesday, July 24. From Wednesday through Saturday, July 27, scales are open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a food truck and drinks will be available on the club grounds, for the public as well as participants. Bands will play live Thursday through Saturday, and an awards ceremony will be held at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday.

“Advertising material includes, but is not limited to, a banner at our club during the tournament, posters, tournament book, brochures and in fishing publications,” said Ridley and Linney. “The White Marlin Invitational receives extensive media coverage, as was evidenced through 2017’s tournament featured on the Pursuit Channel’s weekly fishing program, ‘The Fin Chasers,’ in addition to coverage in local and national print media, including Big Game Fishing Journal, The Fisherman, In the Bite, Marlin Magazine, The SandPaper, The Star Ledger and The Asbury Park Press.”
