Beach Haven — In a tribute to Earth Day, on April 22, Beach Haven Elementary School students were recently given reusable water bottles in partnership with the LBI Rotary Club. AnnMarie Deakyne, third-grade teacher, said all of the school’s 70 students received the 8-ounce bottles through a $300 donation from the club.

“With these bottles, the children are reducing plastic use,” said Deakyne. “Students looked forward to reducing the waste stream and the large numbers of plastic items winding up in our landfills. This is a good way to teach the youngsters the importance of keeping our environment clean.”

Ann Nachman, Rotary Club secretary, said the school had reached out to the club earlier this year.

“We thought it was a good project,” she said. “It’s important to encourage students to be more environmentally minded.” E.E.
