Beach Haven — Bay Village hosts the fifth annual Cookie Wars competition this Saturday, Dec. 14 (rain/snow date Dec. 21). Cookie lovers are invited to taste the confections at 13 participating shops in Bay Village and Schooner’s Wharf starting at 11 a.m.; voting lasts until the cookies run out. Voting will take place at Country Kettle Fudge, where the winner will be announced at 3 p.m.

Organizers started with chocolate chip, then snickerdoodle, followed by oatmeal and sugar cookies, and now it’s gingerbread’s time to shine. They say it’s a delicious way to visit favorite retailers and savor the sweetness of the holiday season.

The winner gets a special gingerbread trophy, plus bragging rights for a year, according to Spice It Up’s Regina Lotito-Starin. Cookie Wars has become a tradition for many families and locals, she added.

Each store will bake 300 cookies. Participants include Song of the Sea, Breezin’ Up, Chick’s, Spice It Up, Ship Bottom Brewery, Yuletide, Beached, Buddy’s, Jenna Jane’s, Surf Shack, Coconuts and Country Kettle.  —V.F.
