Barnegat Seeks Input for Summer Concerts

Sep 04, 2019

As the Barnegat Township Recreation Department’s free Saturday night concerts at the dock wind down for the season, the town is seeking input on who residents would want for the 2020 lineup.

The series finale comes on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. with Strictly 60’s to cap off the town-wide Pirate’s Day.

Township Committeeman Albert Bille, who is recreation liaison and a regular attendee at the concerts, said he gets “plenty of feedback during the summer.”

“I get asked by people why we can’t get this group or this group,” he said. “Sounds of the Street was here three times, and people have asked why that is so. I get people telling me that they really liked this band, or they thought another band was terrible. The concerts have been a big draw, and I think the one we had over Labor Day weekend with Sounds of the Street had the biggest crowd there ever.”

Bille said  concert-goers wanted to see the Jersey Shore Roustabouts, but the band split up last summer.

“Every year it seems that some bands go through changes or break up,” he said. “We do take suggestions and try to book the most requested (bands).”

He said people can contact Jean Broadbent, recreation director, at 609-548-6319 or email her at jbroadbent@barnegat.net.

“Any input to us must be made no later than Oct. 1, as that is when we start working on the schedule,” said Bille. E.E.
