Barnegat — Competitive and casual runners are welcome to take part in the Barnegat Volunteer Fire Co.’s “Stop, Drop and Run” event on Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning and ending at the municipal dock. The action starts with a 1-mile fun run at 8 a.m. followed by 5K and 10K runs, both beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The fee for the fun run is $10, while the 5K and 10K participants pay $25 and $40, respectively.

“It’s a great way to start the morning. (Get) some exercise and help a good local cause,” said event coordinator Scott Sircovitch. “This is our seventh event, and we had around 150 for the first one and since then, participation has doubled.”

The run will be a USA Track and Field sanctioned event. Besides runners, walkers and strollers can also participate. Results will be computerized and broken down by age and gender. Free refreshments will be available.

Sircovitch said proceeds will help pay for equipment, training programs, maintenance expenses and facility upkeep for the fire company.

Registration can be done online at station11.org, or call the non-emergency number, 609-698-6766. E.E.
