Barnegat — The Barnegat-Waretown Chamber of Commerce holds a “Hot Rods and Heroes” classic car and truck show on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field across from the firehouse on Birdsall Street in Barnegat. Admission is free.

Bill Clanton Jr., chamber president, said proceeds from registration fees will benefit the Barnegat Community Fund. The public is invited to bring a nonperishable food item for the Barnegat Food Pantry when attending the car show. All veterans in attendance will receive a free Hot Rods and Heroes T-shirt.

“Awards will be given in a variety of categories including a new category, ‘Future Classic,’ to open the show up to a younger generation of car enthusiasts,” he said.

Clanton said the car show was formerly held in November.

“We’re having it in August when we know we’ll have warm weather,” he said. “It got a little cold the first time we held it.”
