Attempted Carjacking Foiled in Little Egg Harbor

Little Egg Harbor — A juvenile was arrested Thursday attempting to carjack an Ocean County Parks employee at Freedom Fields Park in Little Egg Harbor. At 4:30 p.m., Little Egg Harbor Township police were called to the park, on Route 539. When K-9 Officer Brian Smith and his partner, “Hooks,” arrived on the scene, they met with an Ocean County Parks security guard who said a man had approached his vehicle, brandished a knife and demanded his vehicle. The security guard drove away and watched the man go into the woods..

Little Egg Harbor police, along with Tuckerton Borough police, set up a perimeter while Smith conducted a K-9 search. Smith and “Hooks” tracked the man to an area of the woods. When he saw the officers, he attempted to run away but was shortly apprehended by Cpl. Michael Pritsch and Det. Cpl. Chris Arciniegas.

The juvenile was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a knife. He was subsequently charged with carjacking, robbery, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. The juvenile was transported to a secure facility where he is currently being held.
