Another Agenda

Oct 02, 2019

To the Editor:

I would like to mention the re-election postcard that Bonnie Picaro recently sent to Long Beach Township taxpayers. She states, “Vote 2 Restore LBI to a State-of-the-Art K-6 School” on that postcard. Approving a $7.68 million referendum will not make the 68-year-old LBI Grade School in Ship Bottom into a state-of-the-art school.

Mrs. Picaro has voted to jam all of our students into the LBI School, which needs a lot of repairs and has no room to expand in the future, if necessary. She has also previously voted to close the Ethel Jacobsen Elementary School.

I am a Long Beach Township taxpayer who has followed the Long Beach Island Consolidated School District saga for many years. The EJ School sits on is a valuable piece of land for Surf City and Ship Bottom.

The majority of the board of education seems to have an agenda other than what is best for our kids. They have ignored our public pleas to let us have some input. They refuse to answer what they will do with the EJ property once they jam our students into the very old LBI School. This hardly sounds like a “state-of-the-art” elementary school to me!

Please come to the BOE meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. to witness what is going on and to comment on the future of our children.
