Stafford Township, NJ — As the Stafford Township Board of Education members entered the Stafford Room of the Oxycocus School building, Gerald Simonelli walked up to his usual seat all the way to the right side of the dais and decided it was his time to move over by a seat, since Joe Mangino was moved to the other side.

“Yeah, did you see that? He tucked me in the corner,” newcomer Mark Zoladz joked, referring to Simonelli taking his nameplate and making the old switcharoo. “I’m going to have to talk with him about that later.”

Zoladz was one of three members sworn in during the board’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 6 – the others being board President Walter Jauch and Mangino, both of whom won re-election bids in November. Zoladz, whose brother, Scott, holds a seat on the Southern Regional Board of Education, scored his place on Stafford’s board after former vice president Richard Czajkowski opted not to seek re-election.

“I’m level-headed and I can think through things,” said Zoladz, whose motivation for running for the board was mainly based on having a daughter in the district and desiring to be more involved in it. “It’s a lot of common sense, I think. It’s pretty straightforward stuff. So I’m giving it a shot.”

After Jauch was nominated and reappointed to his position as board president, Simonelli nominated Mangino as vice president, for which he received a unanimous vote from the eight board members in attendance.

As part of reorganization business, the board approved 19 agenda items, including the dates of the board’s meetings for the rest of the year. Those dates are as follows: Jan. 23, Feb. 20, March 19, April 23, May 13, June 11, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 16, Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

The annual public budget hearing is slated for April 30, and next year’s reorganization is set for Jan. 6, 2021. The board meetings in January and September will be held at Stafford Township Arts Center, as will the public budget hearing. —D.B.
