Stafford Township — Ah, yes … chocolate. Many people love the tasty goodness of it. And, of course, many of today’s adults probably can recall watching a 1971 film titled “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” which starred the late, great Gene Wilder.

That said, the students of All Saints Regional Catholic School should have a lot of fun and bring some fine entertainment to several audiences when they present “Willy Wonka Jr.” on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18. Both performances are slated for 7 p.m. at the school, located at 400 Doc Cramer Blvd. in Manahawkin.

In this youth version of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale, the delicious adventures of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory light up the stage and feature the enchanting songs from the 1971 film, as well as fun new songs. The story follows candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars, and whoever comes up with these tickets wins a free tour of the Wonka factory and a lifetime supply of candy. While four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, the fifth is a likable young lad, Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour alongside his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow the rules of the factory or suffer the consequences.

The show, presented by the All Saints Regional fine arts committee, is produced by Daniella Barbaccia and Jerry Gambino. All Saints graduate Francesca Brown is the director, and the All Saints cast includes Hannah Kelly as Willy Wonka, Sawyer Lilley as Charlie Bucket, Charlie Vidal and Sadie Magaziner as Mr. and Mrs. Bucket, and Sofiana LaPointe, Juliana Pineda, Ashley Henderson, Cali Curcio, Carmela Lis, Ava Moody, Leah Krompholz, Nicole Schirripa, Madelyn Terzian and Lindsay Kane as the famed Oompa Loompas.

Tickets are $10 per adult and $8 for students and seniors, while children 2 and younger are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the school’s main office from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting May 8 and at the door prior to each night’s performance. D.B.
