Acme Memories

May 29, 2019

To the Editor:

First and foremost, I wish nothing but prosperity to the owners and the staff of Bird and Betty’s. However, for those of us of the “’70s Youth Culture,” B and B was the Acme Hotel – whitewashed, cheap drinks and always 3 or 4 inches of standing water in the men’s room. Wonderful!

The doors were nailed shut with plywood soon after Labor Day. The journalist in me remembers the shabbiness. The then-18-year-old (yes, it was legal to drink at 18 years of age then) remembers well ... the memories. What happened at the Acme stayed at the Acme – never.

Oooohhh, I did say whitewashed. The Acme was never colorful, unless dirty and grimy white counts.

Cheers to all who someday will have colorful and wonderful memories of Bird and Betty’s.
