Join Ephrat Asherie Dance on an exhilarating journey through the ever-changing physical landscape of New York City’s underground dance community as the company performs “UnderScored” at the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. The work, which features special guest artists from New York City’s underground scene, is inspired by the intergenerational memories of club dancers.

As college representative Dori Londres explained, “UnderScored” is a recipient of a National Performance Network Creation and Development Fund award, and is commissioned by, and will premiere at, Works & Process at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City this fall.

“Ephrat Asherie Dance,” Londres also noted, “is a dance company rooted in street and social dances. Dedicated to revealing the inherent complexities of these forms, EAD explores the expansive narrative qualities of various vernacular styles, including breaking, hip hop, house and vogue, as a means to tell stories, develop innovative imagery and find new modes of expression.”

Tickets to the upcoming performance are $25 to $30. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit or call the Grunin Center box office at 732-255-0500.

The Grunin Center is located on the main campus of OCC on College Drive in Toms River.  —J.K.-H.
